Domaine de Chevalier Blanc Score 99-100
This is a remarkable wine with a density of fruit that reminds me of a Montrachet from a great vintage. it’s full bodied, dense and rich -- almost oily -- but then it turns bright and fresh with a powerful backbone of acidity. A marvel.

Nez frais d’agrumes, citron vert. Attaque charnue, polie, très fraîche, arômes francs, ciselés. Long, aérien.

Quite discreet but supremely elegant white florality and fruit, great persistence and harmony, a beautiful wine, hard to imagine a better Domaine de Chevalier white. Drink 2014-25. (18.5 points)
Dom de Chevalier 2010 Pessac-Léognan Blanc 17.5+ Drink 2016-2030
Tense and long lived with great electricity. Still very astringent and taut with some exotic aromas on the nose and then a certain green grassiness on the palate. Still extremely youthful. May well last longer than I suggest. Tasted both open and blind.

(85 % SB, 15 % SM ; 60 % harvest, 40 hl/ha, 14 % ABV)
MS: Pale color; fresh, zesty, Sauvignon nose; both rich and vigorous in constitution, dry, generous wine, very ripely flavored, but this ripeness is supported by a fine, firm acidity, a broad, quite fat style for the property’s white wine. Juicy, spicy, complex, discreetly oaky, full of both ripe fruit and very mineral aromas; Burgundian in its breadth, rich and linear at the same time. Pure, taut, aromatic, and with great length. Grand-scale Domaine de Chevalier white. 2018-35+.

DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER Pessac-Léognan White 2010 Score: 91-94
Very pure, with a stony frame to the straw, verbena and gooseberry notes. Superfresh, but not overly tangy, with a long, suave finish. —J.M.
One of the truly great names of dry White Bordeaux. Chevalier Blanc has a loyal following and is a wine with an amazing ability to age despite being attractive in its youth. 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Semillon aged in one third new oak. A huge nose jumps out of the glass - white peach, melon and grapefruit. The palate has impressive depth, a round - almost oily - texture but good balancing acidity. Some tropical hints to start off then pears and melons. Citric freshness on the long finish. |

2010 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc 93-95
The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc has a very taut, focused nose that has more vivacity then any barrel sample I can recall since the 2007. There are scents of fresh apricot, cucumber, water cress and a touch of lemon zest. It seems to shimmer in the mouth with racy acidity with hints of fresh apricots, a judicious touch of creamy oak and a citric thread defining the finish. Very composed and focused, this will be a little beauty once in bottle.
2010 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc An explosion of lemon, guava, grapefruit, lime and fresh picked flowers poured over wet rocks make up the perfume. Thick, rich and incredibly concentrated, this dense, intense, Bordeaux Blanc has the perfect amount of acidity to feel bright and fresh. This was the only wine from the Pessac Leognan tasting that was too good to spit. 97-98Pts

DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER BLANC 2010 : 92-94 +
Composed of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon, and in need of 8-10 years of cellaring, this is one of the most backward dry whites of the vintage with unbelievable minerality and personality.
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux, France
The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a brilliant white wine that is neither too heavy nor too light. Its gooseberries, star fruit, and lemongrass notes lead into a palate of fresh acidity and wonderful intensity of fruit. This is very long in the finish and like all good vintages of Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, this one will keep for decades in the cellar. (92-93)

Dark crimson. So racy and inky, mineral and sinewy. Chewy. SO youthful! Racy and sinewy. Lively, fragrant. Mouth filling and vibrant though it has yet to evolve much character but the balance seems promising. Acid dominates tannin here.

DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER ROUGE 17,5/20
Olivier Bernard has crafted a succession of stunning wines over the past few years and this may well be his best yet. There is a wonderful purity and precision, a real sense of terroir, and great harmony between the Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) and Merlot (34%). The quality of tannins is exemplary, the balance is perfect, the length extraordinary, and the whole thing reeks of pure class. Sorry, but this is a personal favourite and I can’t help but wax lyrical about it!

2010 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 93-95
Tasted three times, the Domaine de Chevalier has great precision on the nose with pure dark blackberry, dark plum, black olive compote and crushed flowers. The palate is just superb, mainly because of the crispness and tension in the tannic structure, framing a very precise, very focused Domaine de Chevalier that should age beautifully. It is almost understated but with great mineralité on the finish and superb persistency. Watch it blossom in bottle. Tasted April 2011.

DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER ROUGE 2010 : 91-93 +
Consultant Stephane Derenoncourt along with owner Olivier Bernard have done a fabulous job over recent years, but the tannic, backward 2010 Domaine de Chevalier seemed primary and difficult to assess when I tasted it on three separate occasions. The natural alcohol is 13.5% from a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. A youthful inky/blue/purple color is opaque to the rim and the nose offers elegant aromas of crushed rocks, acacia flowers, boysenberries, black currants and subtle toast as well as oak. This thick, rich, tannic, backward wine will require patience. I would guess 7-10 years of cellaring will be essential, but this is a 30- to 40- year wine.

Domaine de Chevalier, Pessac Leognan 2010
Rich purple with a sliver of vibrancy at the rim. Wonderful texture visually, and a highly promising nose. Charcoal flavours, some smoky plum, a touch of cassis, heavy tannic structure and a full mid-palate, but all very quiet, breathing slowly, clearly built for a long life. One of the best ever from this estate, also known for its white wines. 94/100. Drink 2020-2040.

FARR VINTNERS
This much respected property in Léognan is run with great care by Olivier Bernard whose family took it over from Claude Ricard in 1983. During the 1980's and 1990's there was a massive programme of replanting and it is only in the last few years, with the vines reaching maturity, that the quality here has returned to that of the great vintages of the 1960's and before. Without doubt, the best vintages of Chevalier are the most recent ones. Domaine de Chevalier performed an amazing treble at our annual Southwold blind tasting, winning the Graves flight in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Prices, however, have remained reasonable. Monsieur Bernard has recently engaged the talented winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt (of La Mondotte, Canon la Gaffelière and Pavie Macquin fame) and the wine has benefited greatly from his input. Not only is Domaine de Chevalier the best value wine in Pessac-Léognan these days, it is now becoming one of the best of all. A property on the rise - one to watch. Olivier believes that this is the greatest wine that he has ever made. It certainly has the deepest colour ever. 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. An attractive nose of forward exotic fruit, cedar and smoky spiciness. On the palate there is sweet, rich, opulent cassis fruit with touches of vanilla and Asian spices. Immensly concentrated but fresh and bright. Intense, long and harmonious. Great wine!
